17th Malaysia Chem-E-Car Competition 2026
The Chem-E-Car competition is a prestigious annual event organized by The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). It challenges students to design and construct a small car powered and stopped by chemical reactions or innovative mechanisms, without relying on conventional batteries or fuel. The car must carry a specified load over a given distance and stop as close as possible to a target line. This unique challenge integrates key areas of chemical engineering, including chemical reaction engineering, fluid mechanics, process control, and safety, making it a highly relevant and hands-on learning experience. The Malaysia Chem-E-Car Competition aims to challenge students of the institutions of higher learning to design and construct a shoebox-sized car that is powered by a chemical energy source. This Chem-E-Car shall carry a certain load of water to a given distance, hit a ball then stop autonomously. The car performance shall be judged based in the combination of completion of predefined tasks design creatively and issues related to safety, environment and health.
